This was a fun activity that I did on my PGCE course. I have recently adjusted it and used it in a lesson observation (for which it was graded 'outstanding').

This is a lesson all about extending pupils' knowledge of adaptations. Most pupils will recognise adaptations from primary school, but every single student was able to progress in this lesson. It links biology to physics, and gets them to think of adaptations that animals in completely different scenarios will possibly have. It also involves team work and increases their verbal literacy skills.

The PowerPoint is fairly self explanatory, any further points are in the 'notes' section at the bottom of the slides.
The resources in this pack include everything you need except materials to actually make the aliens (plastic bottles, straws, clingfilm, bubblewrap, pens etc. I would recommend giving different groups different materials so they can trade resources. You can include a competition to see which group manages to gain the greatest amount of money throughout the task, and award money for good teamwork).
