Amelia Earheart - Writing Unit - Week 1

This Year 2 writing unit takes flight with the adventurous story of Amelia Earhart, a pioneering aviator who dared to dream big. Using the book as a high-flying stimulus, students will embark on a writing journey filled with exciting activities:

Predicting the Journey: Students will soar into Amelia’s world by making predictions about her daring adventures using picture clues and their own knowledge.

Asking Questions: Curiosity will take the lead as students ask questions about Amelia’s life, her plane, and the challenges she faced, using question stems like “Who,” “What,” “Why,” and “How.”  
Unveiling Hidden Meanings: Students will become detectives, using inference skills to uncover the emotions, motivations, and significance of Amelia’s actions and the people she met along the way.  
Sequencing the Adventure: Students will map out Amelia’s incredible journey by sequencing key events, from her early fascination with flight to her record-breaking achievements.
This unit not only elevates essential writing skills but also inspires young learners to reach for the skies and pursue their dreams with courage and determination.
