Five KS2 literacy lessons for Anti-Bullying Week 2017. This week of clearly structured, differentiated literacy lessons encourages children to consider issues and themes related to bullying whilst practising speaking and listening skills and exploring and producing a range of different genres of writing. They are ideal for Years 4, 5 and 6. One lesson enables children to produce a high-quality descriptive diary entry. The plan is differentiated three ways and includes a learning objective, success criteria, a starter, a sample diary entry to model on the board (with tips on how to engage the class during the teacher input) and a plenary. It also includes a writing frame to enable lower ability writers to access the lesson and produce their own diary entry. The drama lesson plan encourages pupils to explore the thoughts and feelings of people involved in bullying using dramatic techniques. It includes a learning objective, success criteria, a starter with individual and paired activities and then a mixed ability group drama activity which draws on a dramatic technique to encourage children to fully get into the role and mind set of their character, and then peer assessment. The plenary is designed to generate a word bank for use in the other lessons. The letter writing lesson encourages empathy and solidarity with victims of bullying and enables pupils to produce a high-quality letter written to a victim of bullying. The plan includes a learning objective, success criteria, a starter, links to video clips, a sample letter to model on the board (with tips on how to engage the class during the teacher input) and a plenary. It is differentiated three ways and includes a worksheet to enable lower ability writers to access the lesson. The leaflet writing lesson This enables pupils to write an informative advice leaflet to help victims of bullying. It includes a learning objective, differentiated success criteria, links to differentiated resources and a plenary. The poetry writing lesson involves children reading and discussing examples of powerful and emotive (age appropriate) anti-bullying poetry, before helping the teacher to write a model poem on the board and then writing their own individual poems. It includes a learning objective, success criteria, starter and plenary as well as an example model for the teacher two write and three example poems for higher ability children, two for middle ability children and two for lower ability children. The lessons can be taught in any order as each is a stand alone lesson, so you can see which order best suits your timetable.
