AQA English Language Paper 1 Revision

This 16 page booklet contains revision activities for the English Language Paper 1 GCSE exam (AQA new specification).

The source material is an extract from the opening of Sons and Lovers by DH Lawrence (available via search engine).

Section A - Reading
Questions 1-4 include sample answers aimed at level 3 and level 4 on the mark scheme to demonstrate to students what a higher level answer looks like. There are also follow up tasks students can complete (write a PEE/PEA paragraph).

Section B - Writing
Question 5: Descriptive Writing. (Image of a fun fair taken from Google images)
There is a brief overview on how to structure a piece of descriptive writing followed by a model response (1 paragraph)
Students can then use the success criteria included (adapted from the mark scheme) to peer assess another sample paragraph and then write their own description.

Question 5: Narrative.
There is a planning table that uses the short story structure that students can use to help plan their narrative responses. Additionally, there is a sample table that has been completed to demonstrate how to do this.
A sample narrative is included that can be used as a model or peer assessed.
Students can then write their own narrative pieces and peer assess each other’s work.
