This complete scheme of learning covers a range of poems by Armitage and Duffy. Every lesson focuses on the assessment objectives. Explicit use of the assessment objectives (AO1, AO2, AO3) are referenced throughout most lessons. Assessment tasks are built in to the scheme. The SOL will analyse poems individually developing students’ ability to engage with the content of the poems and identify the way the speaker is feeling.
Students are actively taught to engage with the content first. An understanding of what is happening in the poem and the effects created. Students are then taught how these effects and ideas are presented through the use of form structure and language. Arbitrary feature spotting is avoided.
A range of creative writing tasks are built into the SOL to allow the development of key skills across the Language and Literature AQA specification. Home learning suggestions are provided throughout.
