This Arctic animals ten frames math activity includes both print & Google Slides™ options, and is a great hands on math center for counting objects to 20. These counting mats can be used as winter play dough mats or with manipulatives you already have in your classroom and are great for fine motor skills. Students will work on counting for numbers 1-20, number formation and number words.

This resource is differentiated for progression and scaffolding, and includes print and Google Slides™ versions.

Both color and black & white printing options are included for the printable pages.

The Arctic animals shown on these counting mats are as follows: arctic fox, arctic wolf, crabeater seal, husky, moose, polar bear, reindeer, short tailed weasel, snowy owl, walrus.

Printable Option - Ideas for Use
To prep the counting mats, print the version you would like to use and laminate for durability.

Students can trace the numeral and number word with marker pens. If laminated, this can then be wiped clean to use again.

Students can use manipulatives to show the given number on the ten frame, either by putting one manipulative on each snowflake on the pre-filled ten frames, or by counting the objects and filling the blank ten frames.

You can use manipulatives you have readily available in the classroom with this resource, for example:

play dough
pom poms
cubes
mini erasers
counters
