The Expected Outcomes are a set of statements designed for assessing students who are using English as an additional language. (EAL)
The outcomes describe the expected attainment of English language and literacy skills for early years and primary students. They can be used to benchmark attainment against a first language speaker of English. They were designed to indicate progression in skills in any language.
They draw upon published assessement tools from the early years foundation stage (EYFS) , the English national curriculum (ENC) for English, the Common European framework reference for languages (CEFR), British Council, Cambridge English course descriptors and Pearson’s Global scale of English.
Used in an international setting, their use improved the monitoring and attainment of EAL pupils, measuring progress and training teachers and assistant teachers.
