Chloe Goes Through the Gate
“If I were you, and of course, it is up to you, I would not go through that gate!”
Chloe was startled by the sudden appearance of an old lady who had appeared seemingly out of nowhere. Chloe had been walking through the countryside and was just about to go through the gate when the old woman appeared with a girl of about seven in a yellow dress standing next to her.
“Why wouldn’t you go through that gate?” asked Chloe half amused and wondering if the old lady was playing some sort of joke on her.
“I haven’t ever been through that there gate,” she began, “but there are folks who say that other folks have been through that there gate and they’ve never come back, that they haven’t! One rumour was that they’ve gone back in time to Saxon times but I’m not sure about that.”
Chloe smiled at the two of them. “Well, I’m sure I’ll be fine. I’m used to walking in all sorts of places. If I come across any Saxons I’ll let you know!” With that she prepared to open the gate.
“But that’s the thing,” said the old woman. “You won’t be able to come back and let us know because nobody what has been through that gate ever has come back you see!”
