Having finished a unit about the Battle of Hastings I decided to re-create the battle with the students almost like experimental archaeology!

With art and homework they created shields (Simple search online for creating cardboard shields), helmets and swords for the day. These took some time to create so organise this at the start and keep tabs on its progress - I offered rewards when they brought them in.

Once completed I then used a PE lesson as I taught that as well and it was the only opportunity to get all the groups involved together, the cross over is in the tactical aspects and the javelins/arrows!

we filmed all of the phases including mistakes and then I made a video of the lesson using a BBC documentary for the voice over. The video was then shown to all the Y7's, SLT and staff available. The students loved all the various aspects and I believe they got a lot more out of this than just the classroom lessons we had done.

Hope you can make good use of it (We had about 10-15 per side but would have worked well with more!)
