These questions are for an approx. five-minute video, one of a set of five. This sheet is CHEAPER if you get them all in the bundle. I’ve only listed the sheets separately in order to make the bundle. See the bundle here: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/resource-12814636
Find the film by searching YouTube’s BBC Teach Channel for Ancient Greece | The Olympic Games | KS2 History | BBC Teach
The BBC says “Our guide to the Olympic Games is Leonidas of Rhodes, a runner and a hero of the original Olympic Games. Leonidas describes the main events of the Games and we also learn that the purpose of the Games was to honour the god Zeus.
Leonidas describes the running events that he excelled in, including the hoplitodromos - a running race undertaken in full armour. He then describes the combat sports - wrestling, boxing and pankration, a combination of both in which almost anything is permitted - and the throwing and jumping events. He offers some interesting facts along the way, including that the athletes had to compete completely naked.”
Now differentiated! All versions look very similar, but “B” version has subtle clues and “C” version requires pupils to circle the correct answer from three, giving better access to pupils with lower literacy. 16 questions for the 5-minute film. .doc and .pdf of all sheets, link to video on all sheets. Answer sheet. Very easy to mark.
The BBC KS2 Class Clips Ancient Greece web-page has the video and extensive teachers’ notes, suggesting further work.
Please check that you can access the video before you download these sheets. All the links work when I upload. If my links no longer work, the videos may still be found elsewhere on YouTube, BBC Teach etc.
