This is a huge, 40-page bundle of resources to support the use of the picture book ‘Bowerbird Blues’ by Aura Parker in your classroom. This bundle is organised into two sets - one for infants (K-2) students and one for primary (3-6) students.

This toolkit is perfect for whole-school administrators, or those seeking a range of activities to use in future years, as the bundle contains resources for students from Kindergarten to Year Six.

The bundle contains:

  • Differentiated Comprehension Guides. Three (K-2, Stage Two and Stage Three) distinct comprehension guides, targeting a range of skills. This age range means that differentiation can occur in your classroom, simply by scaling up or down for easier or harder questions. The questions can also be used as a discussion guide. Explicit skills are named for the primary guides, including not only literal and inferential levels, but visual literacy, author purpose, cause and effect, sequencing and more!

  • A Vocabulary Booster. A comprehensive vocabulary booster, targeting the independent, higher-order consolidation of language skills. Students are required to examine the context of new words, research their meaning, and then apply this by writing their own sentences.

  • A full-colour ‘background to the text’ about bowerbirds. This is designed to provide background knowledge for students. It includes full-colour images, as well as factual information about bowerbird. This information is directly linked to the text ‘Bowerbird Blues’ and explains the behaviour of both male and females bowerbirds.

  • K-2 Literacy Centre Task Cards. These task cards cover a range of skills and are designed to be independent. Tasks are integrated with Creative and Practical Arts and are low prep.

  • 3-6 Literacy Centre Task Cards. These access a more sophisticated range of skills, including persuasive, informative and imaginative writing prompts, which can be used for assessment purposes. Tasks are, again, designed to be low prep with a high degree of choice to allow for teachers to work with small groups at the same time.

  • All associated printables. These are linked to the book ‘Bowerbird Blues’ but are also open-ended, meaning they can be used for other texts and tasks.

  • A workbook cover to tie it all together! This can be used for all age groups. The resources are designed to accommodate differentiation - simply print the resources needed for each group and add the cover. The cover can also be decorated for fast finishers.

I have many other resources in my store (almost all of them based on Australian content), so feel free to check them out.

Happy reading!
