This lesson plan, based on an original story: Brave Bear and Worried Bear, helps children explore emotions,explore self-regulation and behaviour management while enhancing literacy skills. Children learn to identify and express feelings, understand coping strategies, and recognize that it’s okay to feel a range of emotions.
Suitable for EYFS, KS1 and SEND pupils.
Lessons Include:

  1. Story Time: Share the story and discuss Brave Bear’s coping techniques.
  2. Creative Drawing: Children draw their Brave Bear, focusing on strength and colour.
  3. Reflection: Children complete prompts about bravery and Brave Bear’s powers.
  4. Exploring Worry: Draw and discuss Worried Bear’s expressions.
  5. Coping Strategies: Brainstorm ways to help Worried Bear feel better.
  6. Emotional Check-In: Identify feelings and discuss ways to improve.
  7. Drawing Skills: Drawing bears and emotions.
  8. Facial Expressions: Add expressions to Brave and Worried Bear.
