READING COMPREHENSION & ACTIVITY CARDS
This resource is designed to extend and support learning, within the upper primary school and early secondary, in Literacy and Reading. Each card has a short piece of text to read, followed by comprehension questions and literacy activities. Tiger Reading has been designed as a scheme you can print out, laminate and use in your classroom as a challenge for fast finishers or as a core activity. The literacy tasks are designed to provide an element of choice for pupils. There are 10 cards for each level, with answers included too. Expansion packs will be available on TES in the near future, should you wish to purchase any more cards for your collection.
Tiger Reading currently has three different levels; Blue (approx. age 8-9 reader), Green (approx. age 10-11 reader) and Purple (extension resource for able readers). All three levels are available in this pack together as a bulk buy, along with the board games to supplement.
Why not give Tiger Reading a go today? It is far cheaper than alternative reading task cards available from major retailers and, once bought, you can share the file with colleagues in your school.
BOARD GAMES:
To supplement the Tiger Reading and Literacy Cards, I have created 12 games for children to use to enhance their understanding of vocabulary, openers, punctuation and adjectives/adverbs.
The games are levelled:
Blue- age 8-9 approximately
Green- age 10-11 approximately
Purple- more able readers and writers
There are four different games at each level (12 in total)
Vocabulary Game- pupils choose a more interesting synonym for an underlined word, if they have to choose a thesaurus then they must return to the space they came from.
Adverb Game- pupils change a given adjective and subject into an adverb within their own sentence
Openers Game- pupils are given an opener which they must use within their own sentence to stay on the space
Punctuation Game- pupils use mini-whiteboards to use the given punctuation mark correctly in a sentence
These games can be used to cater for different levels within one class whilst all still practising the same skills, or they might be spread through a number of year groups to support learning. Print out, laminate and keep forever! You’ll always have the file to replace them once they are lost or looking a bit tatty around the edges.
