Summary of passage
Carter G. Woodson, born in 1875, overcame the challenges faced by African Americans to achieve great things. He was highly educated, earning his high school diploma and bachelor’s and master’s degrees. Woodson is best known for creating Black History Month, believing it was important for everyone to learn about African American history and achievements. He wrote several books, including “The Mis-Education of the Negro,” which highlighted the lack of opportunities for African Americans. Woodson also founded the Association for the Study of African American Life and History, promoting the study of African American history and culture. His work has had a lasting impact, and we celebrate Black History Month every February because of him.
