This resource focuses on an extract from Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory to introduce the concept of characterisation. Students will learn how authors use many techniques to ‘show’ the character’s personality rather than ‘tell.’

It includes a word quad activity, which focuses on words from the text, a literary technique match-up, comprehension questions, a S.T.E.A.L table activity and a creative writing task.
