Chatterboxes/ Cootie Catchers
Are you getting ready to meet your new class or are you prepping for back to school? Do you want to encourage your new class to break the ice and get chatting? These getting to know you chatterboxes (or cootie catchers - depending on what you know them as!) will help them do just that! You can choose the version that best meets the age/ability of your class and I’ve also included a blank one that students can make themselves. Once children have been given/made their chatterboxes, they can join up with other members of the class to use their chatterboxes. Hopefully by the end of the session, they will have chatter-boxed with most, if not all, of their class. I love this for encouraging conversations in a no-pressure, non-awkward way. It will take the pressure off children and help them talk with scaffolds in place to help lead the conversation.
The chatterboxes work in the ‘traditional way’, however I have included additional ‘chattable’ content to encourage more talking.
There is a printable ‘how to make your chatterbox’ which can be displayed on the board or printed for students to use.
Download includes:
2 x picture only chatterboxes (cootie catcher) these are perfect for younger children or for children who struggle with reading. For these, children will talk about the pictures by choosing what they like most and talking about it.
8 x question/discussion/choice chatterboxes (cootie catchers!) These are perfect for children who have some reading skills. There are a mixture of words/questions/discussion points or choice chatter points.
1 x blank chatterbox (cootie catcher!) template for children to make their own
