This is an easy, no-prep Christmas Writing Task, that can be used in one lesson or across 4-5 lessons. This is a persuasive letter to Santa; the children are elves and have to decide on the perfect gift for Santa to give every child.
Task 1 - Discuss what the perfect gift is. This could be a short discussion or you could take time debating together, sharing ideas, researching different gifts that are popular in the world.
Task 2 - After choosing the perfect gift, children then need to think of three reasons why the gift is perfect for everyone. They complete the second worksheet, giving the children the opportunity to practice their Point, Evidence, and Explain skills.
Task 3 - Children then write a letter to Santa, explaining what the perfect gift is and why he should choose their idea.
EXTENSION IDEA: I used this idea for the children to then create an Elf for our classroom display.
