A lesson that focuses on the poem ‘A Married State’ by Katherine Philips, and aims to develop personal interpretation, annotation confidence and close analysis skills.

The slides include:

  • Historical context and a knowledge check ‘quiz quiz swap’
  • modelled application of analytical verbs
  • modelled writing
  • guiding questions that focus on language, form and structural features
  • extension activities that apply a historicism lens

Suitable for use as a standalone lesson or to support an existing SoL. Originally taught to a Year 10, class but this lesson could also be adapted for Year 11 revision.

Please note the activities here were originally planned for an 80 minute lesson.
