A lesson that focuses on the poem ‘Lament’ by Gillian Clarke, and aims to develop personal interpretation, annotation confidence and close analysis skills.

The slides include:

  • A line by line analysis
  • guiding questions that focus on language, form and structural features
  • contextual information that includes an article and optional war photography discussion prompt (please see guidance notes in slides before teaching)
  • A Frayer Model handout to support with etymological understanding

Suitable for use as a standalone lesson or to support an existing SoL. Originally taught to a Year 10, class but this lesson could also be adapted for Year 11 revision.

Please note the activities here were originally planned for an 80 minute lesson.
