The students will create a moving panda that is the symbol of China for Asian/Pacific American heritage month. They will learn about the significance and symbolic meaning of the panda in Chinese culture and how they represent yin and yang visually with their black and white opposite colors in harmony on their fur by using black and white newspaper to create the areas of the panda’s body on paper. They will learn about their habitat and recreate the environment with the panda “climbing” up and down the tree. They will be able to recognize the importance of saving the panda. A learning objective, subject summary and application in real life, materials needed for each student and the step by step directions needed to create this lesson are all detailed in each of my lesson plans.
