Compound interest PowerPoint. This activity allows students to calculate the estimated debt of a number of the world's poorest countries using compound interest calculations. I started the lesson with the maths4real video clip on compound interest and world debt and then split the class into teams of 2 or 3. Each team represented a country and received a flag, info and a sheet describing the activity. This worked really well for my class and is a nice way of incorporating SMSC into maths.

This is sensational - so much more interesting than completing a series of calculations given a formula. Great to look at this in real world context. Am planning on having each country report about their debt - want my students to have a fee for how Australia compares to all of this and how lucky we are as a nation.

This is a really great activity for a lesson on compound interest (and potentially standard form). I got a bit confused until I realised the instructions are right at the end of the PowerPoint and the first sheets contain the answers rather than the questions. Thank you for sharing.
