This toolkit will help you put food education at the heart of your school or area.
It pulls together the knowledge and experience gathered during the creation, build and launch of the Hackney School of Food - a food education hub in the grounds of a primary school in London, where an old building and scrap of land were turned into a cooking school, vegetable garden and orchard complete with beehives, wood-fired oven and chickens.
Funded by the William Sutton Prize, this toolkit aims to create a network of food education hubs up and down the country which put good food culture at the heart of schools and communities.
It contains architectural knowhow, food education tips, advice on gardening in a school setting and insights into creating a revenue stream from classroom hire. So, whether you embark on a small scale project, such as vegetable beds or a larger scale scheme to create your own state-of-the art cookery school, the guide can be adapted to suit you.
