Theme - Creating Characters: "All Creatures Great and Small"
This is Part 1 of a series of 5 learning resources written to support the teaching of creative writing in the classroom. The resources have been written by Joy Winkler – a former Cheshire Poet Laureate, successful playwright, poet, performer and workshop leader – with a range of accompanying stimulus material provided by the Learning Department at Tatton Park.
The aim of this collaboration is to bring tried and tested creative writing activities to the classroom in an accessible, fun and affordable way. With Joy’s expertise and the rich history and beautiful surroundings of Tatton Park providing inspiration for writing, we believe that this creative writing bundle provides a high quality, curriculum focused programme of learning. The resources have been written with a Key Stage 2 audience in mind, but teachers can make appropriate adaptations for younger and older pupils if they wish.
You can choose to run the activities together or split them over a period of time. You know your class and their needs best – the purpose of this guide and accompanying resources is to give you the tools to build engaging creative writing workshops in the classroom, as well providing you with the confidence and knowledge to deliver them yourself.
This is a creative writing workshop inspired by the abundance
and variety of animals and other wildlife in Tatton Park. By
observing and researching facts about this aspect of park life, we
can achieve stories and poems with multi-layered characters and
exciting plots.
The resource pack contains a comprehensive teacher’s guide, as well as a selection of accompanying resources and stimulus material.
