The presentation is designed to be used as a classroom resource or student resource. Delivered by the teacher, objective led- it can be used over several lessons to: introduce key words, teach binary fission, how to calculate population growth of microbes, how to culture microorganisms using aseptic methods. It could be used as preparation for basic practical work and also has details of the required practical - Investigating the effect of antibiotics or antiseptics on growth of micro-organisms. Included is an equipment list, method and student risk assessment information. For assessment, novel GCSE style questions are included with mark schemes. The presentation slides are set with timings, or can be advanced or paused as required. It includes animations describing binary fission and aseptic methods for culturing microbes.

An accompanying printable student handout is also included. This has student activities including GCSE style practice questions and mark schemes that can be used to accompany the presentation.
