This is a HUGE bundle of resources designed to support the text “Deadly Science Solar System” by Corey Tutt in your classroom.
Deadly Science Solar System is an informative text which explores the Solar System through the lens of Indigenous studies. It is edited by Corey Tutt. This text is one of the recommended texts to support the teaching of genre in Stage Two classrooms, as part of the NESA unit “Our Universe” (Unit 10) in the new curriculum.
This bundle of resources includes:
- A detailed student comprehension workbook, designed to be implemented independently. This workbook can be printed and bound, and students can work through the workbook at their own pace. Comprehension questions access a range of levels, from literal to inferential. The workbook is very detailed with two pages devoted to every chapter of the book (50+ pages).
- Embedded creative responses and research questions for further consolidation of the text.
- An answer guide for every section of the guide, perfect for assessment and feedback purposes.
- Ten full-colour Literature Circle task cards, also linked to the text. These have a Literacy focus, with informative, imaginative and persuasive writing prompts, as well as independent Creative and Visual Arts activities. These are all designed to be independent and are perfect for integration into your reading group time. They require no prep, other than printing worksheets.
- All associated printables, which can be used for a range of texts, both fiction and non-fiction.
- A series of seven Fluency Development Lessons based on the theme “Women in Space” (linked to the text). This includes seven full-colour reading cards, targeted at a Stage Two lexile level. These are designed to build both fluency and vocabulary.
- Seven linked consolidation worksheets, which support the Fluency Development Lessons. These can also be incorporated into reading group time for further word work.
- A full-colour word wall, space themed, which focusses on the vocabulary used in the book.
This resource is perfect for supporting your students in understanding non-fiction texts, and for engaging them in the fascinating study of the Solar System. As a result, these resources also support Stage Two and Three learning in the Science strand Earth and Space Sciences.
Whilst this unit of work is designed to support the text Deadly Science Solar System, it would also support a broader study of non-fiction and the Solar System in particular.
I have many other literacy-based resources in my store (based on Australian content) so feel free to check them out.
