Differentiated addition (column method)

This is a set of resources designed to help students master the skills of addition using the traditional column method.

In the first sheet, the layout for each question is provided, with the student needing to fill in each circle, the size of each determined by whether it is a main digit or carried digit. I have found a key barrier to students feeling confident with this method is in the manner in which they prepare the layout in the first instance. The first sheet should help guide students through this initial phase.

The second sheet provides 5 sets of questions, each set increasing in difficulty. The layout has not been provided in this sheet. The answers to the questions on the second sheet are provided.
