These Divergent Math Movie Guide Questions will challenge students to calculate speeds, solve proportional relationships, and determine outcomes related to time, distance, and rate. Problems include estimating how long it takes Tris to jump from heights, calculating punches in combat, and determining heart rates as Tris confronts her fears.

These problems will help reinforce the following math skills and standards:

6.RP.A.1: Understand and use ratio reasoning to solve real-world problems
6.RP.A.3: Solve problems involving ratios and percentages
7.RP.A.2: Analyze proportional relationships to solve problems
7.RP.A.3: Solve multistep ratio and percent problems
8.EE.A.2: Solve real-world problems using square and cube roots and by using equations and expressions to calculate unknown variables.

General Tips for Using the Print version of this Movie Guide:
Print one, double-sided movie guide for each student
Preview the next question on the movie guide as you complete each one, this can help students pay attention to important upcoming events.
If students work together, discourage students from simply copying answers.
Randomly choose a student to share their answer and defend it if necessary.
Optionally, after completing the math questions, allow 5-10 minutes for each ELA question at the end of the film.
