EAL Women's Power Poetry

This unit was created to scaffold women’s power poetry for EAL students who are A/B on the Bell Foundation scale (new to English). I would recommend using the sentence starters for Shallow for the other poems. However, if you find that your students (EAL or low ability) find the later writing frames easier to use, use those.

The poems are on the presentation itself but can be found easily online. Alternatively, I printed the slide with the poems out so that students had the pictures in the same places. It made discussion much easier.

The unit could also be used for low ability classes.
