This document supports teaching pupils how to edit writing following a few simple steps.
Editing is not just about changing spelling and checking grammar.
Improving writing includes revising sentence structure, improving vocabulary, ensuring it is effective and interesting to the audience/reader.
Watch this simple video using the link below to find out how to;
Ask questions about your first draft of writing (what’s missing?)
Add (tier 2 vocabulary, adverbs, and expanded noun phrases and figurative language)
Takeaway (poor words, description)
Replace (sections, for improved vocabulary, better synonyms or short sharp sentences).
Read Aloud (ongoing)
Peer Assess (ask a friend to read and make suggestions)
Repeat (process above).
Use a slip lined paper to re-write the second draft and replace in margin or asteria the paragraph and rewrite below original
