This is the first lesson in the Music video unit, which covers Media Language in ‘Underdog’ as of 2024 onwards. This in-depth lessons includes:

-A quiz on key fundamental Media Lang terms
-A brief history of music videos
-Contextual insights into Alicia keys and her record label
-Andrew Godwin and the types of music video
-Narrative retained knowledge task
-With a consideration of contexts, what issues/themes do you think are represented to us as an audience?
-In-depth application of Barthes and Claude Levi-Strauss
-A video on the making of ‘Underdog’
-Audio/visual task on editing and assessment (seen/unseen) with snippets from ‘Underdog’ embeeded
-Question 1 is based on the audio-visual resource. It is an extract from the music video Up All Night (Beck, 2017). You will be allowed one minute to read Question 1. The extract will be shown three times.
First viewing: watch the extract.
Second viewing: watch the extract and make notes. You will then have five minutes to make further notes.
Third viewing: watch the extract and make final notes. Once the third viewing has finished, you should answer

Moreover, some of the tasks in lesson and for H/W are dependent upon owning the EDUQAS AS/ A2 Revision Guides/ Mark Dixon’s ‘Media Theory for A Level: The Essential Revision Guide’

The power point also includes theoretical framework slides at the end of the power point to aid differentiation/ scaffolding etc.
