LESSON 1-8: I have consolidated all of the Black Unit unit into one EIGHT lesson Power Point. This EIGHT lesson resource can be taught to either AS or A" classes and covers:

-Industry V Institution
-Audio/visual on marketing and promotion of movies
-The history of the ‘Black Panther’, colonization, the Harlem Renaissance, the Black Panther political movement, Black Lives Matter and #Oscars So White.
-Disney and it’s historical and cultural issues with depictions of ethnicity in their mainstream products.
-An analysis of the Superhero genre and the viewing of a Mark Kermode documentary on superheros.
-TASK 2: WHAT HAS LEAD TO THE POPULARITY OF THE SUPERHERO GENRE? WHY IS IT SO COMMERCIALLY VIABLE?
-Are Superhero movies damaging cinema? Are there any socio/cultural benefits to such movies?
-The numbers and reasoning behind the films success.
-Application of all three Industry theorists.
-Examiner Ambush on Industry terminology.
-Brand identity and Disney
-Post-colonial theory (Paul Gilroy), cultural imperialism and cultural appropriation.
WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES TO HAVE DISNEY AS YOUR OWNER/DISTRIBUTOR AND MARKETING DEPARTMENT?
-DOES ‘BLACK PANTHER’ ADHERE TO DISNEY’S MISSION STATEMENT?
-Fill in the blanks paragraph and reveal of answer (A* exemplar)
-Teaser posters, theatrical posters and trailers with audi/ visual supporting task.
-A audio and visual breakdown of all of the ways Black Panther marketed itself.
-TASK 5: AVENGERS CONVERGE! A task sheet based on questions raised by the Examining Board.
-Regulation and the BBFC.
-How did ‘Black Panther’ securing a 12A cinematic release boost it’s chances of being commercially viable/ financially successful?
-Tribal Warfare- Task explain thusly: You will now each be assigned a tribe from the Black Panther universe. Each tribe will create a resource based on a past industry question adapted to that of ‘Black Panther’ (no mock questions as of yet available for this text).

You will have a double lesson to:

Create a revision resource based on your question (1st side of A4)

  1. Write an exemplar response to that question
    (2nd/ reverse side of revision resource).

The tribe with the best resource sheet and essay response will win a special prize.

IMPORTANT: This resource includes a resource sheet and printable power point slides. This lesson all includes 6 differentiated slides to stretch learners and aid them with higher concepts theories as well as a documentary on the Superhero sub-genre which can be accessed on BBC i-player. IT ALSO INCLUDES A FRAMEWORK H/W PACK.
