For each lesson there is a Powerpoint presentation and accompanying homework task. The lessons will be enough to cover all aspects of the PHYSICAL elements of development. There is an accompanying course companion booklet to support learners with independent learning.

A set of lessons to cover the learning aims

1.1.1 Growth and development through the life stages

1.1.1 Learners should know and understand the expected milestones of physical, intellectual (cognitive), language, emotional and social development that take place in each of the main stages in the lifespan:
• infancy 0-2 years
• childhood 3-10 years
• adolescence 11-19 years
• adulthood 20-64 years
• later adulthood 65+ years.

1.1.2 Physical aspects of development

Learners should know and understand the developmental milestones and key aspects of development and changes in physical development in each of the following life stages:
• Infancy and childhood: reflexes, growth, gross and fine motor skills, self-care skills
• Adolescence: puberty and the physical changes that take place in girls/boys
• Adulthood: pregnancy, menopause, muscle strength, weight gain
• Later adulthood: the ageing process and its effects.
