Have your students ever been swimming in a lake? What about the ocean? How do the students think swimming in fresh water compares to swimming in salt water? Swimming in the ocean is easier because of the salt. Salt water is denser than ordinary tap water. The denser the liquid, the easier it is for an object to float in it. This means that salt water can support heavier objects than plain water.
