Lesson 1- An introduction to the electrophilic addition mechanism by looking at the reaction of alkenes with hydrogen halides. The alkyl inductive effect is introduced to compare the stability of carbocations and identify the major and minor products formed in reactions.
Lesson 2- This lesson builds on the first one with a focus on the reactions electrophilic addition reactions of alkenes with halogens and sulfuric acid.
There are lots of opportunities for students to practise the mechanism as well as the other ways in which exams stretch students in this topic. All answers are given throughout.
