Elementary Garbage Collectors The Material and Lesson Plan (Full version)

This is a 40 minutes reading activity for elementary level learners. They will use skimming and scanning. The text as an authentic material includes the simple present tense. The activity consists of four parts. For the pre-reading part, students will watch a short silent video. Afterwards, there are three questions that students are required to discuss with their partners. This activity will activate the students’ background knowledge and scaffold them to read the text. After the pre-reading part, students are supposed to read the text and answer questions about the text. While doing this, students will use their scanning skills. The third part includes a matching activity. Students will match the pictures, which improves students’ cognitive skills. The last part is skimming activity. Students will find a suitable title according to the text. This will evaluate students’ comprehension ability.
