In this card sort activity, students will match the question or image at the bottom of each card to the correct answer at the top of another card, arranging the cards like dominoes. When arranged correctly, the cards will make a closed loop

To prepare the activity, print the pages onto cardstock and cut along the solid lines. DO NOT cut the dotted lines. Cards can be laminated if desired and stored easily for multiple uses. The cards are given in order on the template and a numbered version is given for use by students for self-checking if needed.

This activity is an ideal stater, plenary or revision game to review:

  • the definitions for element, compound, atom and molecule,
  • to identifying elements, compounds and mixtures from particle diagrams (your students will need to know how to recognise particle models of elements and compounds and the simple formulae for carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, water, oxygen and methane)
  • decoding chemical formulae
  • the structure of the atom.

This activity is an ideal stater, plenary or revision game to review the organelles found in animal and plant cells. Suitable for KS3, when introductions to GCSE Chemistry and Common Entrance syllabuses.
