This resource contains a five PowerPoints with animations and videos along with student question sheets to accompany each PowerPoint. These help students to explain:

  • The role of enzymes in catalysing reactions that affect metabolism at a cellular and whole organism level.
  • The role of enzymes in catalysing both intracellular and extracellular reactions
  • The mechanism of enzyme action.
  • The effects of pH, temperature, enzyme concentration and substrate concentration on enzyme activity.
  • Practical investigation into the effects of substrate concentration on enzyme activity (OCR PAG 4.1).
  • The need for coenzymes, cofactors and prosthetic groups in some enzyme-controlled reactions.
  • The effects of inhibitors on the rate of enzyme- controlled reactions.

Everything you’ll need to teach a series of lessons (approximately 4 x 1 hour lessons) on enzymes; plus a practical which takes approximately 2 hours.

Each PowerPoint contains the answers to the student question sheets.
There is also an end of topic test with mark scheme and an enzymes crossword to help embed key words.
