Please find my NPQSL submission which is all about improve the reading progress outcomes of boys in KS2. I passed with 26 marks out of 28.
When I was writing mine, I found that there was very little support for the writing and the appendices so I hope this one will be of help for those studying NPQSL.
The project (despite being interrupted by COVID) was successful and our reading 2022 SATs improved hugely following this change of teaching guided reading.
I have included the communications grid, business plan and risk analysis.
Taken from the contextual statement:
As a new Key Stage two leader and new teacher of year 6, I was keen to roll out a project across Key Stage 2 that would further my responsibilities and ensure progress for pupils was improved. Boys’ reading across the school had been an area to improve on from the school’s development plan (SDP), in both progress scores from SATs but also in encouraging boys to read for pleasure. Furthermore, developing greater depth scores in reading was an importance. There had been a number of intervention groups focused on improving reading progress in the school (Fischer Family Trust in lower KS2; teacher-led reading intervention groups in year 5 and 6 (some specifically for boys) and reading buddy groups. Personally, the teaching of reading has always been of a great interest to me and I felt enthused to begin a project that would delve further into the pedagogy surrounding the teaching of reading. For this particular project, with the SDP in mind and after discussions with the SLT, I focused on improving the progress scores of boys measured by their end of KS2 results.
