Student discussion rarely invoke real analysis and driving forward of ideas. They either agree or conflict with each other which doesn't move them forward. Print these cards off on different colours. Each student has a set. They need to 'play' their card to contribute meaningfully to the discussion.
Make up the rules to suit, but getting rid of all our cards first always seems to raise levels of engagement.
Use in conjunction with cooperative learning mat where responsible/higher ability students might facilitate the discussion and monitor participation
