This is a complete set of 9 lessons suitable for Year 6, but could easily suit Y4/5 which focuses on the skill of expanding vocabulary. There are 9 lessons, which I will be using for 25 minutes per day. The lessons focus on:
1) Identifying unfamiliar vocabulary: a lesson based around exposing children to more difficult vocabulary and encouraging discussion about what these words mean.
2) Defining unfamiliar vocabulary: using dictionary skills to expand our word knowledge
3) Using new vocabulary in context: children will use the new vocabulary in their own sentences showing an understanding of context
4) Children will understand how context changes word meaning
5) Synonyms and antonyms: children will focus on synonyms and antonyms of key words, producing spider synonym webs and playing a game of match the antonyms.
There is a powerpoint which guides you through all 9 lessons and each lesson is fully resourced where necessary.
