This is a great little investigation/assessment I use with extension class to introduce patterns in the way of figurate numbers and identify student's potential to do algebra. Part A is done at home and then Part B is a validation test to do in class. Note: The question in the box in Part B involves proof, it is an optional question for students to do (identify any really gifted mathematicians)
