This pack includes 5 weeks of high-level comparative revision lessons on the following themes for Frankenstein and The Handmaid’s Tale: Believability and Reliability; Science and Society; Knowledge and Power; Identity and Existentialism; Science and Gender; Setting

Each week of lessons includes:

  1. A* grade comparative model essays on the first four key themes.
  2. Key quotation bank/worksheets for the key themes for Handmaid’s Tale.
  3. Extracts and page numbers given throughout to help students quickly identify the most relevant evidence for their essays.
  4. Each week culminates in students writing up their revision essay.
  5. In-depth peer and self-assessment guidance based upon the mark scheme to allow students to mark their own essays using the model essays as comparison.
  6. Exemplar pack of model materials from Edexcel.

The key themes were selected based upon analysis of past exam papers and specimen questions as being the most relevant and all-encompassing.

*This scheme was planned for students studying Edexcel Literature Paper 2. Students need to have already studied Frankenstein by Mary Shelly and The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood and should also have a working knowledge of the mark scheme.
