The scenario has a role play card similar to that which would be provided to a student in an exam, a teacher’s role containing the questions the teacher would ask and a PowerPoint presentation showing students what the recommended answers are to gain full marks with a commentary giving tips to ensure that these utterances are formed accurately. The PowerPoint contains native speaker voiceovers so that students can listen to and practise correct pronunciation. On the final slide there is a ‘your turn’ section where students can practise a different role play in a similar context, thus showing that they can manipulate the key language required for success. The teacher’s role play card should be given out here for students to practise their role play in pairs, students taking it in turn ton play the teacher’s role.
In addition, there is a set of listening activities which recycles the language used in each role play, in which students listen to a role play and complete either a gap fill activity or a multiple choice or comprehension activity based on what they hear. The teacher can differentiate the type of activity given to different students by providing either of the question types. These can be printed off as PowerPoint slides or projected on screen for the whole class, in order to save printing. The sound file icon can be clicked to hear the role play. Each set of listening activities contains the PowerPoint containing listening comprehension questions and transcript, the sound file and accompanying transcript.
