Are you looking for fresh, engaging, middle and high school fiction for reluctant or struggling older readers? This short story work packet is perfect for Year 8/9 (7th to 10th grade) students needing to boost reading levels, comprehension and inference skills. Your students will love this gripping, spooky ghost story with a twist. Zero-prep. Students can work alone or supervised.
I decided to write fun, engaging fiction (with questions) because I couldn’t find anything like it, anywhere when I was teaching comprehension for the 11 Plus exams.
This short fiction story is under 5,000 words and written specifically to grip middle schoolers and give them a joy of reading. It comes with two levels of comprehension questions. The harder set will cover most of your CC Standards RL.6.1 to RL.6.6. The lower-level questions are perfect for less-able readers or those who need support with comprehension and understanding. This is a truly differentiated resource which will help you get your students understanding and enjoying what they have read.

My stories and comprehensions sell really well and are popular with teachers and students alike:
“Thank you for creating this resource! It is challenging to find resources that fit the need of my caseload but also engage them.”
“I was able to use these stories as a fill-in for and in between snow days. The girls loved them and even called them mini-hallmark stories and the boys thought they were great short and to-the-point stories. As the teacher, they were great stories with great hearts and wonderful discussion points. Thank you for sharing your gifts.”
“My students worked harder on this than they have on anything else I’ve tried this year. Thank you.”
