This resource has been designed for students working towards Functional Skills Maths qualifications at Entry Level 3 (Edexcel-Pearson, NCFE, City and Guilds and Open Awards). It contains an age-appropriate, 30-page workbook and a 85-slide PowerPoint lesson on Outcome 2 - subtract three-digit numbers.

The resources will help pupils to achieve these outcomes:

subtract using three-digit whole numbers
use subtraction to solve real-life word problems

Workbook

The 30-page workbook contains 8 information/explanation pages, 19 worksheets (with answers), 2 progress checks and a certificate of achievement. The resource is provided in PDF format and an editable PowerPoint version to enable personalisation of the resource. It ican be used for classwork, homework, revision or as an independent learning pack.

PowerPoint Lesson

The editable 85-slide PowerPoint clearly explains how to subtract using column subtraction with and without regrouping. It provides may opportunities for pupils to practice this skill. There are also a number of one and two-step word problems involving subtraction. The PowerPoint also contains links to two short videos on how to subtract using the column method.

It is an ideal resource to introduce the subtraction component of the Entry Level 3 specification and for revision purposes.
