This 4 lesson Scheme of Work is designed for Key Stage 3 but could be used at any stage for pupils who do not have a basic understanding of the fight for gay rights in the twentieth century. Lesson 1 looks at the example of Alan Turing to see how gay people were treated in the early twentieth century. Lesson 2 looks at Stonewall and the birth of the Pride movement. Lesson 3 looks at the fight for homosexuality to be legalised. Lesson 4 looks at the fight for marriage equality. The lessons look at both the US and the UK, as well as looking at the worldwide picture in lesson 3.

Each lesson consists of a 5 min video, some questions, and one task. A good starting point for planning, but not enough for a lesson.
