This is the second lesson in the Energy topic: It’s Lesson 2 - Energy transfers.

Starter: Remembering what we did last time - students can look at the picture and try and remember the names of as many energy stores as possible

Main: Light saber demonstration. Students get to think about energy changes, energy input and energy output.

Circus activity: Students will move around different stations. They will look at a system (eg a torch, tennis ball falling etc) and will complete a table with the energy input and energy output for each system.
They will then self assess this using the slide on the board.

Then, the teacher can give an example of an energy change and identify with the students the useful and wasted energy output.

Students will then go back to their table and use a green pencil to circle the useful energy transfer and a red pen to circle the wasted one.

Plenary: Students will write their own example of an everyday life process on the piece of the card.
Then give it to the person sitting next to them and ask them to identify the energy transfer/change in their example.
