GCSE COMP 2, MUSIC VIDS (SEC B) :'BAD BLOOD', UPTOWN FUNK'& 'WATERFALLS' (MEDIA LANG/ KEY THEORY)

MUSIC VIDEOS AND ONLINE MEDIA: ‘Bad Blood’, ‘Uptown Funk’ and ‘Waterfalls’ (2021 ONWARDS).

Lessons 1-6= This six lesson resource begins looking at the 4 RAIL features needed for the Section B, Component Two Paper. Each lesson includes an in-depth look at how the RAIL feature in question can be applied and analysed within the set texts. These six lessons explore Media Language, codes and conventions in-depth. To further aide you, I have included all links to audio/visual clips and literature needed as well as links where you can access the entirety of the set texts and other case studies. These six lessons look at:
-GET THE DROP ON THE EXAMINER- Assessment of Retained knowledge of key RAIL terms. This will be at the start of each lesson and will focus on that lesson’s RAIL feature.
-CONTEXTUAL CORNER: A BRIEF HISTORY OF MUSIC VIDEOS (MTV)
-Types of Music video and a visual accompaniment of each; Pop, Hip-Hop, Funk and R&B.
-Hybridisation
-From a viewing of our three selected videos, what codes and conventions can you identify with regards to Music Videos? (TASK)
-Production Values
-Intertextuality and Homage with an in-depth look at references in all 3 videos.
-Richard Dyer’s Star Theory
-Codes and Conventions of Music Videos
-Written technical, symbolic and Audio codes
-Mise-en-scene analysis
-Differentiated (RAG task) Screen grab analysis of ‘Black or White’

NOTE: I am following EDUQAS Teaching Model 1 in my teaching/ SOW and teach a three year GCSE.

(Each lesson is laid out as I teach my own class but I have added notes at the bottom of some of the slides e.g. on the Media Teaser, to aide teachers. All lessons are developed with differentiation, assessment/challenge as well as engagement entrenched heavily within all my resources. Moreover, constant reference is made throughout to the selected Examiner Media.
