This resource is based on Edexcel History of American West in 19th century book. The content is enriched by adding many pictures, diagrams, maps and couple of video links to make the content more accessible to all ability pupils. This unit is about the push and pull factors that encouraged migration to the West (Oregon and California) in mid 19th century: economic conditions of the East in 1830/40 (Panic of 1837), the growing popularity of farmland in Oregon, establishment of the Oregon Trail, the Gold Rush in California (from 1849), and the idea of Manifest Destiny.
