100% Common Core Aligned
This unit is designed to correlate with the third grade common core standard MCC3.MD.2: (Can be adapted to other grade levels)
Measure and Estimate Liquid Volumes and Masses of Objects using standard units of grams, kilograms, and liters.
This is a 5 day unit in which each lesson contains an essential question, activating strategy, teaching strategy, summarizer, lesson resources, and more.
The unit also includes vocabulary posters, an assessment, and homework pages for each lesson. It is truly all you need to teach this standard.
Day One; Understanding Grams and Kilograms: Includes weighing items on a scale, understanding that a gram weighs about a paper clip and a kg is about the weight of a dictionary. Students will have practicing measuring grams.
Day Two: When to use grams and kilograms. This lesson focuses more on estimating how many grams and kilograms an item may be and when to use grams and when to use kilograms when measuring items. This lesson contains a set of 24 task cards, recording sheet, and answer sheet.
Day Three: Liters. Students will be introduced to liters and see how much liquid volume a liter contains. Students will decide if objects contain less than a liter, more than a liter, and about a liter.
Day Four: Word problems involving grams, kilograms, and liters. Students will solve word problems using these measurements. They will be asked to solve the problems using numbers, pictures, and words.
Day Five; Assessment. Students will be given an assessment on this standard.
